Be alert to save culture of India

Riots, Rapes and Honor Killings are definitely not our culture.

Enough is Enough

What is happening to culture of India??? Are we bothered???

The rich culture of India has given our country a unique identity. We all are proud of it. But are we watchful and alert to save it and grow it. Will we only refer to past when talking about Indian culture. What about today and tomorrow? Are coming generations going to be proud of what we are doing today? Remember more than art, music, festivals, dressing, monuments etc it is the mindset which is the essence of every culture.

So what is happening to mindset today? Just look around across all dimensions of society.

·     Anarchy – When people say and do things as they wish. There is complete shamelessness and fearlessness in doing wrong. They fail to understand that they are part of a big family and have the responsibility to behave in a manner that reflects and enhances the richness of our culture and harmony in society. We have the collective responsibility of upholding the rich culture of India. Solution – Take pride in being appropriate. Never forget you are representing INDIA.

·     Crime – The rising number of crimes reflects the mindset of society. It tells that people are losing inner harmony and they are losing the inner will to be on right and positive side. There is loss of sense of right and wrong. Worse is, the wrongs are justified. It should be alarming for our society.  Solution – Take pride in staying on right and positive side. Elders must be accountable and role models for children.

·     Abuse of power – The wrong use of power and manipulation to achieve selfish interest or harm others indicates how much people are losing the art of self discipline.  This is a grave indicator of growing cowardice.  Solution – Take pride in being self disciplined and fair. The real power is not in using or suppressing others but in protecting and serving others.

·     Corruption - The richness of Indian culture is in its value system. But unfortunately people today adopt corrupt means to accumulate wealth. Corruption reflects greed and inability of people to earn respect and dignity. Solution - Take pride in being honest. It is intelligent and brave to be honest.

·     Superstition – There are many religions in India which give strength and dimensions to culture of India. But unfortunately people today are not able to understand the real meaning of religion and spirituality. There is too much noise but no substance. For some it has become business and others a mindless blind routine.  Solution- Take pride in being sensible and rational. Develop and promote faith not superstition or meaningless rituals.

·     Conflicts - The very basis of culture is togetherness. We share, coordinate and cooperate. We help each other mutually and nurture each other. But the rising pattern of conflict and obstinacy to resolve issues is detrimental. It ranges from road rage to communal tension. Solution - Take pride in being socially skillful. Live and let live is the way of Indian culture and is based on not hurting others right to live.

·     Depleted Wisdom – One of the strongest point of Indian culture is wisdom. Alas! It is almost extinct. Impulsiveness and whimsical life has replaced it. Gratification of senses is seen as happiness. Solution - Take pride in being wise. Do not forget, India has shown way to the world. Human beings must live like human beings.

·     Work culture – Fairness, accountability and efficiency are necessary for good work culture. We are yet to incorporate these deep in our work culture. Solution - Take pride in being efficient. Let ethics and industriousness be the symbol of Indian work culture.

·     Family culture – Another very strong element of culture of India is family culture as building blocks of society. It gives completeness to human life. Sadly there is an alarming rise in family conflicts and breakups. It is a reflection of loss of ability to love and care. Solution - Take pride in being loving. Love is no business. The pleasure is all in giving.

It is time to be alarmed. Save it before it gets too late.

Love India, be proud of India and take pride in carrying the spirit of India.
